Brett Tracy
Founder & Registered Energy Advisor
“Our work is built on a simple principle: treat every client’s home, build, and project the way we’d want our own treated, with honesty, attention, and the highest standard of care.”
At Thrive Energy Inc., our goal is to bring precision and awareness to what used to be the ‘wild, wild west’ of home building. Before the introduction of the BC Energy Step Code, many properties were constructed without much insight into building science, operating costs, or occupant health and comfort. We founded Thrive Energy to close that gap for builders, developers, and homeowners across the Okanagan Valley.
My professional foundation is built on a robust, certification program through Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), paired with rigorous quality control, ongoing quality assurance audits, and strict continuing education. To provide unmatched technical value to our clients, our team holds specialized certifications through TECA and HRAI for CSA F280-12 heat loss and heat gain calculations, and duct flow testing, alongside advanced training in multi-unit residential buildings, CHBA Net Zero standards, and other building science systems.
As a certified Integrated Design Process (IDP) Facilitator, I focus on breaking down the traditional, fragmented silos of construction. Rather than stepping into a project at the last minute simply to “check a box” for a municipal permit, I lead collaborative roundtable design charrettes right after the conceptual design phase. By bringing the homeowner, architect, builder, and primary sub-trades together early on, we align project goals and pre-plan critical elements, such as matching architectural window-to-wall ratios with mechanical duct sizing or optimizing roof geometry for future solar panels. This front-loaded approach ensures compliance, streamlines field execution, and eliminates late-stage change orders.
Having overseen more than 1,500 projects from Kelowna to Vernon and beyond, I specialize in moving past guesswork. While the common industry standard relies on generic square-footage ‘rules of thumb’ to size HVAC equipment, our process utilizes diagnostic testing to document the building envelope’s actual performance. By delivering precise infiltration metrics, we empower mechanical contractors to avoid the costly trap of installing oversized systems that short-cycle, turning on and off inefficiently, and spike upfront and monthly utility costs.
As a proud member of the Canadian Association of Consulting Energy Advisors (CACEA), I adhere to a national network that upholds the energy consulting profession to the highest standard of accountability. Whether facilitating an IDP session for a high-performance custom home or navigating complex multi-unit residential developments, I provide practical options that protect your health & comfort, your compliance, and your budget.
Emma Tracy
Co-Owner & Registered Energy Advisor
“We aren’t here to dictate or tell you how to construct your home. Our passion is acting as your options facilitator, working alongside your team to take the vision you have and align it with energy compliance seamlessly.”
Transitioning from a precise clinical background as a dental hygienist, Emma brought her sharp attention to operational detail, quality assurance, and community communication over to the building science field. As an NRCan Registered Energy Advisor co-leading Thrive Energy Inc., Emma specializes in demystifying the complex, nuanced “industry speak” of energy codes so that developers, owner-builders, and homeowners can make highly informed investments.
Emma is dedicated to protecting Okanagan clients from the costly mistakes or the unintended consequences of the traditional piecemeal building approach. By analyzing real, authenticated data, such as actual R-values of assemblies, exact manufacturer window specifications, and infiltration metrics, she ensures buildings are performing in the real world rather than relying on guesswork. She manages Thrive’s proactive pre-construction reporting workflow, collecting data and energy metrics, and performing load calculations to hand over to builders long before execution begins.
